This is a permanent, full-time position commencing immediately.
We are looking for a unique and passionate professional to assist the Director General of the Department of Education to create clever and engaging communications that tell great stories about every student in every classroom every day in WA public schools. From speeches to briefings and social media content, you will develop effective, insightful and impactful messages on a range of platforms for diverse audiences and stakeholders.
Working within the high-performing Communications directorate, you will love the challenge of being in a fast-paced, complex environment with everchanging priorities. You will play a key role in supporting the Director General at engagements/events, providing advice and dealing with issues on the ground.
A leader in your field you think on your feet, demonstrate excellent judgement, have world-class ethics, a sound knowledge of government operations and the ability to cultivate relationships with other executives and business areas across the Department.
Your experience in strategic communications or journalism will be invaluable, as will your willingness to work flexibly to manage the diverse and dynamic requirements of the role.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Substantial experience in communications, including formulation, implementation, and evaluation of communications projects and programs, analysis and reporting on performance.
- Advanced writing skills.
- Considerable experience managing large and/or complex projects, including the ability to manage performance to deliver agreed outcomes within specified timeframes.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate with and influence high level stakeholders.
Critical thinking / Problem solving
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems aligned to strategic direction.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and motivate, mentor and develop others

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to the commencement of employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment and every 3 years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
