The Role and our Branch
The Employee Relations branch is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Principal Consultant - Workers' Compensation to join their team.
The Employee Relations Directorate is responsible for ensuring that industrial instruments and legislative frameworks are complied with and that employees are supported in a range of discrete human resource matters. The Directorate is made up of two branches: Labour Relations and Employee Support Bureau. It provides strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director General, school leaders and line managers on a range of employee relations matters.

The successful applicant will develop, implement, review and report on workers’ compensation programs and procedures and liaise with management, Directors, Principals and schools in relation to complex and difficult workers compensation issues. The Principal Consultant will at a system level, investigate and research complex and difficult workers’ compensation matters in regions, schools and central office, and develop strategies for their management. The successful applicant establishes and communications networks and provides input into negotiations with Insurance Commission of Western Australia, Workcover Western Australia, State Solicitors Office and external stakeholders.
The Principal Consultant will be responsible for managing a team during a period of legislative with the introduction of the new Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act in July 2024.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
