About the Role
The Principal Engineer Signalling will serve as the subject matter expert for the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system: including Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) Automatic Train Control (ATC), Computer Based Interlocking (CBI), Data Communication System (DCS), Signalling Power Supply, associated software, and all signalling equipment both trackside and on board.
Reporting to the Head of Rollingstock and Communication Based Train Control, you will hold the stewardship for all assets, including development of asset strategies, asset programs, maintaining the asset register and maintenance schedules. This role functions as the SME for Configuration Management of software and hardware for the CBTC system, and acts as the interface for new software baselines, including all associated documentation reviews and approvals, for new and existing networks.
Key Responsibilities include:
Represent MTS as the discipline expert with respect to network expansion and new improvement or maintenance projects, including determining requirements, reviewing scope, asset acceptance and supporting project defect close out.
Recognise the decision-making drivers and asset management strategies within a KPI availability payment-based business model using a combination of insourced and outsourced maintenance resources, identify and deliver commensurate decisions and tasks.
Be the subject matter technical expert in developing Signalling - CBTC training material in conjunction with MTS Learning and Development.
Develop, train and mentor subordinate staff in all MTS business areas, and support peers in their likewise duties. Support MTS team development, recruitment and integration.
Implement task delegation to subordinate Engineers and monitor for compliance and completion.
Liaise with MTS, external stakeholders and maintenance service providers in a professional, ethical and compliant manner to consult, negotiate, persuade and record agreements for delivery of MTS business outcomes.
Keep the Rollingstock and Signalling Maintenance Delivery Manager informed with a summary of issues and actions in a timely manner. Promptly and specifically discuss major safety, operational critical and customer facing issues.
Manage financial and commercial delivery for technical and engineering deliverables relevant to the Principal Engineer duties, including coordination with the MTS corporate team. Deliver control and ownership including formulating contract scope, contract administration and cost management.
About You
This is a critical position for Signalling and Operations, and you are required to have a recognised relevant tertiary qualification or Graduate Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering and proven experience in a similar role with demonstrated technical expertise in Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) systems.
You will have superior verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and confident in managing a number of suppliers for software integrations.
