Job description

Wood is recruiting a Principal Process Engineer to join our Operations business in a pivotal role as we partner with major player in the LNG industry to deliver one of the most significant brownfield Oil & Gas engineering projects in 2024 and beyond. Based in Perth Western Australia, this is a full-time permanent role.

Wood's "Operations" APAC West business delivers brownfields engineering, procurement, construction, optimisation, and technical services to the Oil & Gas industry and enjoys long-term partnerships with some of the region's most prominent producers located in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Southeast Asia.

Join us in the heart of Perth's CBD with free 24/7 access to an exclusive on-site gym, superb end-of-trip facilities, coffee machines serving on demand and plenty of spaces to get creative. In addition, you will have access to remote and flexible working options, purchased annual leave and employee discount programs.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will step up and into a dedicated, integrated client project team. You will balance technical, team, client, and project leadership across onshore gas plants (including LNG) and offshore gas and condensate production facilities and thrive on the challenge of:

  • Working across a range of engineering projects at any phase including: - concept identification, selection and definition, FEED, detailed design/execute, commissioning and start-up, as-building, and closeout.
  • Setting clear technical direction for any assigned direct reports on the project, including weekly goals for each member of the team.
  • Representing the Process discipline in design reviews, HAZOPs, HazIDs and LOPA and have capability to facilitate such reviews.

In this highly visible client facing role, your dual focus on relationships and delivery will be essential. Anticipating client needs beyond the immediate scope, you will drive technical excellence and assurance on the Process engineering portion, while enabling the ongoing growth and development of your team. You will also work in close partnership with other disciplines and the client to enable robust technical decisions that ultimately add value to the client and asset portfolio.

You will bring to life Woods three pillar strategy of Inspired Culture, Delivery Excellence and Profitable Growth on the project. Leading by example, you will consistently display and enforce Wood values and behaviours, and commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour, to ensure safe, reliable operations and client satisfaction.

At Wood you will join an inclusive and diverse global community of inquisitive minds and recognised industry innovators, partnering to create new possibilities.

You will be an Australian citizen or hold Permanent Residency (PR) to work lawfully in Australia. If you have a visa application in progress, you are also encouraged to apply.

Suitably qualified in Chemical Engineering from a recognised institution, ideally you will have proven experience working in a similar Principal Process / Lead Process Engineering role, supported by 15+ years of relevant design engineering experience within the Oil & Gas production and / or processing industries. Your relevant experience participating in HAZOP, HAZID and SIL rating studies is essential.

In addition, you will:

  • Be recognized as an expert in Process engineering and have knowledge of advanced principles and techniques of engineering, with experience delivering within a challenging and complex multi-discipline environment.
  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience, capable of engendering an entrepreneurial spirit of cooperation and energising diverse teams to adopt best practice, driving optimal performance with safety at the heart of everything we do.
  • Have a professional level of knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation with an ability to apply relevant technical practices, codes, and standards.
  • Be commercially astute with a "solutions mindset", skilled in the management of risk during the design process consistent with safety, technical and commercial requirements.
  • Be an articulate communicator (both written and verbal) including well-developed technical report writing and professional presentation skills.
  • Have excellent knowledge of MS Office applications, spreadsheets, and commercial engineering programs (HYSYS, Dynamic HYSYS preferred).
  • Have a passion energy security / transition with the vision to navigate energy models of the future, coupled with your proven experience partnering with clients to be more efficient, sustainable, and optimised to deliver the best energy mix in their respective markets.
  • Be customer focused with an ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while balancing operational excellence to contribute to the competitive advantage of #teamwood.

What will set you apart will be your previous experience working in a similar client facing leadership role on a major project. Carbon capture experience is advantageous but not essential.

It takes a diverse and inclusive community of inquisitive minds to unlock tomorrow's solutions to the world's most critical challenges. Wood encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to apply.

If you are a Process Engineering professional looking to take the lead on a major project in Western Australia - apply today!
