About the Opportunity
As part of the Park Lands, Policy & Sustainability Program the Principal Social Policy Advisor will proactively lead the development and implementation of Social Policy and objectives of the City of Adelaide through specialist research, strategic, analytical and social trend interpretation to improve decision making and influence positive outcomes for the community. They will be responsible for project management, social impact analysis, research and policy, business case and program development.
Some of the key current priorities of the team include:
- implementing Council’s Homelessness Strategy,
- implementing Council’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan,
- developing and implementing a new Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan and
- developing a new social equity framework aligned to Council’s new 2024-2028 Strategic Plan.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive experience in social research and planning, policy development, monitoring government policy, analysing data, project managing and implementing social inclusion initiatives.
- Substantial knowledge of community engagement including community engagement principles and their application.
- Substantial knowledge of community and social development principles including understanding of the role of a Capital City Government, needs of different population groups and socio-urban characteristics of an inner-city environment and the social service responses.
- Knowledge of measures to address complex social issues and reduce barriers in the public realm environment.
- Thorough understanding of major Social Policy issues and players, including the role of the non-government sector and the three spheres of government in the provision of social services.
- Knowledge of government and non-government policy and programs and sources of funding and current social research institutions.
