The role:
Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, the Principal Technical Specialist will play a lead role in the Firewall Replacement projects, within the Cyber Security Program. This role will provide comprehensive experience assisting the implementation and replacement of Firewalls and services at Queensland Health. This role will also provide strategic direction and technical management support to the technical team for a successful delivery of the project's technical outcomes.
As the Principle Technical Specialist duties will include:
Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with QPS values as outlined above.
Provide high level support and consulting services to Cyber Security customers, in order to successfully implement the Cyber Security Gateways processes.
Provide expert advice and analysis to Queensland Health's key stakeholders on the enterprise firewall environment and determine the current maturity levels and future requirements of the organisation.
Lead and implement following Gateways functions:
Firewall Operations - CISCO and Checkpoint Firewalls
Firewall Security Management Architecture
Firewalls Engineering
Lead and managing implementation of new enterprise firewalls; working closely with project and BAU teams to transition new Gateways capability into operations.
Ensure compliance and optimal performance of enterprise service levels by managing and performing the dissemination and implementation of policies, processes and standards for technical configuration of the enterprise infrastructure.
Optimise costs of service delivery by designing and developing improvements in particular technology domains within the enterprise infrastructure.
Provide high level research and advice regarding emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of system design, management and support.
Manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level
Provide third level support and technical leadership across the branch
Maintain and manage effective working relationships and engage with third parties that provide technical support for the enterprise infrastructure.
Lead and manage, coach and mentor a highly skilled technical team.

Demonstrated ability to participate in and/or lead a highly skilled technical team providing high-level technical direction, standardisation and support of enterprise infrastructure in a large customer focused organisation. (SFIA Code: ARCH5) (NHS: Leading Change through People)
Proven high level understanding and working knowledge of relevant technical domains (SFIA Code: TECH 5)
Internet gateways and firewall services
External Access solutions
Enterprise Network, both Wide and Local Area;
Wireless technologies
Load balancing; Authentication, Access, and Authorisation technologies; DNS and DHCP;
Demonstrated high level analytical, conceptual and problem management skills with a proven record in the assessment and evaluation of technical requirements within a complex information and communication technology environment.
Demonstrated experience in promoting and ensuring the use of appropriate techniques, within the technology sphere to provide third level support (SFIA Code: ARCH 5; METL 5; DESN 5)
Proven ability to manage and contribute to the development, publication, implementation and compliance to technical policies, standards and procedures at an enterprise level. (SFIA Code: CNSL 5: EMRG 5, QUST 4; CORE 3; QUAS 5)
Demonstrated ability or the ability to quickly learn ServiceNow and ITIL Service Management processes, primarily incident/problem/change/configuration management). (SFIA Code: PBMG 5; CHMG 5; CFMG 5)
