Howden Australia has an immediate need for an innovative Procurement Lead to manage Freight, Logistics & Indirect spend and to develop and implement a long-term category strategy to maximize cost reductions, quality, and on-time delivery through the facilitation of procurement associates across the company. The successful candidate will:
- lead negotiations with suppliers
- supplier selection
- manage supplier relationships
- internal stakeholder management
- implement contracts across Freight, Logistics & Indirect categories
- Partner with budget holders, functional leads, & buyers to identify, create, and execute freight and indirect strategic sourcing activities within the company
- Creating, sustaining and executing cost reduction action plans for shipping and indirect spends to achieve the financial objectives of the business.
- Defining and deploying the strategy for freight, logistics & indirect material, by identifying opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and partnering with top class suppliers to improve performance and align with the business needs and requirements
- Developing a sourcing roadmap for freight, logistics and indirect categories
- Collaborating with functional leaders, procurement engineers, and project managers to develop and implement supply chain levers that will drive cost reduction and improve supply chain efficiency.
- Collaborating with the other departments to identify and implement best practices relating to sourcing shipping / indirect category management
- Taking a lead role for the development of E Sourcing / E auction tool within the business to drive cost out and transparency of RFQs
- Developing, implementing, and sustaining a tiered strategy to transition spend from non-preferred suppliers to drive cost savings and improve leverage through rationalization.
- Forecasting shipping and indirect spend demand across the business and updating a detailed execution plan to align with AOP (annual operating plan)
- Executing major project shipment of products efficiently
- Managing the import of major project shipments through approved brokers and ensure compliance with legal regulations and company/group policies.
- Resolving shipping challenges by co-operating with project stake holders.
- Negotiating shipping/trucking and EVI (earned volume incentive) rates.
- Negotiating rates with couriers to maximize value for money.
- Reporting freight/logistics issues and communicating this to the business along with risk mitigation plans.
- Strategically developing and managing the indirect spend category within the company. This includes developing and executing the category strategies and ensuring spend compliance within the agreed company DOA
What do you need to bring?
You will have 5+ years previous experience one or more of the following areas: operations of Intermodal Freight, Logistics, Shipping, Sourcing of indirect categories. You have a creative approach to proactively and independently solve problems, and to generate new ideas. You’re comfortable working in an autonomous manner, whilst also being an enthusiastic team player. You display good communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization. The role holder will be self motivated and self directed, with the ability to handle a number of tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.
Other skills required are:
- Extensive experience in shipping operations including pricing of large project shipments, developing and implementing indirect services/ material or similar strategies within a global organisation
- Experience of working in a complex matrix organisation across geographical locations, understanding the constraints and working culture within them
- 2 years’ experience in a Indirect spend category management role will be a plus.
- Strong leadership capabilities to deliver results and with experience of leading a strategic procurement function, and sizable indirect organisation
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills with demonstrated experience in negotiating high-dollar, complex procurement agreements
- Knowledge of general business processes with experience in managing projects globally
- Excellent inter-personal skills
The role holder may be required to occasionally travel to attend customer meetings, conduct risk assessments, design reviews, and kick off meetings. Meet with suppliers to verify specifications, and engineering consultants and specialists to seek professional advice with approval.
