Job Description:Production Kitchen Supervisor - Food Services

Are you tired of the long days and nights in restaurants, need a change, come and work with in our dedicated Food Services team?We are seeking an experienced Kitchen Supervisor to work in our busy Production kitchen at St Vincent’s Private Hospital to maintain high levels of professional standards in servicing patients across St Vincent’s Darlinghurst Campus.St Vincent’s Private Hospital Production kitchen is a cook fresh facility with a high quality food service producing more than 60,000 meals per month. This is a large team of approx. 50 staff who work on rotating rosters across the 365 days of the year. You will report directly to the Executive chef.Over the next 12months we are looking to take the patient food offering to the next level, and build the team to do what we do better.About the Role:The Full time position would be FT 5 days per week 76 hours, which includes weekend and public holidays work.This is a very structured work environment, you would be responsible to maintain the work schedules and preparation lists allowing for this efficient high output of patient meals.Strong Supervisory skills and ability to ensure consistency of product are essential in this role to allow us to continue the improvement of the team and the offering to patients.What we expect from you
  • Leadership: To lead and develop a diverse group of chefs, cooks, and support staff
  • Work place culture: Leading the kitchen team by setting a positive example, motivating staff, and fostering a safe and collaborative environment
  • Operational management: Ensure smooth operation by being hands on, have a sound rostering ability and daily management of allocations and ability to problem solve on the go
  • Cost control: production is aligned with forecasted numbers ensuring minimising food waste
  • Continuous improvement: through constant quality control, staff learning and development and menu development.
  • Food safety: ensuring staff are adhering to our food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Delivery: Ability to follow directions and deliver on departmental projects supporting the management team.
About the Candidate:The candidate must have:
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow through direction, and adhere to policy.
  • High level of commitment to the philosophy, mission, values and ethics of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries and SVHA.
  • Ability to interpret and follow recipes and prepare a high volume of meals in a timely manner
  • Thorough understanding and ability to participate in Food Safety & WH&S programs.
  • Ability to develop high volume recipes
  • A high degree of personal hygiene and safe food practices
  • Experience supervising in a structured kitchen environment
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets
  • Capable of a high standard of unsupervised work
  • Effective time management skills
Other essential requirements include:
  • Minimum 5 years of supervising in a Food Production kitchen
  • Commercial Cookery Certificate III
  • Sound understanding of Food Safety/HACCP
