An opportunity exists for an integral role within Boral’s Cement business at our Berrima Plant located in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Boral’s prized upstream cement business is an important supplier for our downstream businesses and external customers. It is the largest operational site in the Boral Group with a manufacturing potential of 1.4 million tonnes of clinker and 1.2 million tonnes of cement per annum. The site has one large rotary kiln and two large cement mills which form the core of the manufacturing plant. As the key people leader for the Production function, the main focus of this role is to ensure that our 24/7 operation is efficiently and safely producing clinker and cement to meet market demands as well as enabling effective production planning. This role will report into the Operations Manager Berrima and will manage a sizeable team, with 6 direct reports and 45 indirect reports.
Your day will involve:
- Co-ordination and performance of the day-to-day operation and production shifts at Berrima Works in order to enable the meeting of budgets in terms of production, efficiency and quality in a safe and environmentally sound manner
- Managing performance and development of shift personnel and effective co-ordination between shift s and other sections of the plant, promoting Boral values at all times
- Minimising cost by monitoring and reporting manufacturing KPIs, implementing improvement plans, ensuring plant operates efficiently, minimise wastage and management of overtime
- Maintaining a highly-skilled, productive workforce by individual development and coaching and training of shift and day work employees
- Contributing to employee and plant safety by ensuring statutory safety policy is being followed by monitoring Hazard Log, safety meetings, safety communication and other safety KPIs or programs as set by Boral
- Maximising overall equipment effectiveness of Berrima Works production facilities to meet market and ensure pyro process refractory condition is in good shape, through to planning and executing refractory shut scope
- Participating in and implementing the alternative fuel plan to reduce carbon foot print.
What are we looking for?
- Demonstrated industry experience in the Construction, Mining and/or Manufacturing Industry, ideally within Cement manufacturing
- Tertiary education in an Engineering or Science Degree, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Post-Graduate Qualifications in Business and/or Management
- Knowledge of continuous process industry (heavy machinery, manufacturing) with exposure to SPC, TQM, CI Lean Manufacturing
- A bias for action, strong safety focus and ability to positively influence trust and confidence in working relationships
- Demonstrated people leadership ability to develop effective working relationships with all people, and to lead and influence

About Boral Cement
At Boral, we supply up to 4 million tonnes of cementitious products through our Berrima Clinker & Cement Manufacturing, Maldon Cement Grinding & Packaging, Marulan South Limestone Mine & Manufacturing, and Geelong Cement Grinding Operations. Boral Cement is working towards reducing carbon emissions by replacing 60% of fossil fuel in its manufacturing process with lower carbon alternative fuel.
