Project Controls Engineer - Major Projects

Reporting to the Major Project Office (PMO) Project Services Manager, the Project Controls Engineer will take responsibility for the consistent application of Project Controls i.e. cost, resourcing, scheduling the management frameworks, processes, procedures and tools to ensure the successful delivery of successful construction and infrastructure projects and programs, following best practise standards.  Fundamental to the role is the ability to support the development of a new Project Management Office while immediately supporting ongoing and new projects.

About the role:

• Provide support to a number of exciting capital projects across the organisation while assisting the Project Services Manager with the development and establishment of the PMO.
• Providing and applying cost and schedule project control techniques, scheduling, earned value, reporting, risk management and cost breakdowns in line with project requirements.
• Support a fit for purpose, best in class PMO for major infrastructure projects
• Support the Project Services Delivery Manager with resource management frameworks, processes, procedures and tools
• Manage Project Controls, including driving effective and efficient communication between project teams, contractors and suppliers and other external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables
• Manage project compliance and governance standards for best practise requirements
• Manage project lifecycles working with management and other members of the project team to maintain and achieve budgets within a tight timeframe.
• Recommending cost control improvements to processes through utilisation of best practice experience, ensuring compliance.
• Establish and leverage cross-discipline relationships within the wider business group to facilitate cost control.

About you:

• Demonstrated experience supporting a PMO for major infrastructure or capital works projects nationally.
• Proven ability to scope and prioritise multiple projects ranging from 300k - $50 million budgets.
• Proven experience and background in program/Project Controls, capital improvement planning, project management
• Significant experience with Project Controls systems and tools in heavy industry/ Engineering/industrial /construction project environments
• Experience with gated and milestone projects, variations, costs and managing risk including developing contingency allowances and contingency management, schedule management, framework standards, processes and tools
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across all levels of our organisation.
• Technical ability in MS Project, Primavera P6, Excel and SharePoint essential.  Demonstrated experience in other Project Controls software highly desirable i.e. AtRisk, Acumen Fuse, Power BI, Powerpoint, SharePoint.
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, Accounting or related construction discipline or considerable experience.
