Job description

Murujuga Aboriginal Coprporation (MAC) is the incorporated body representing Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Mardudhunera, Yaburara and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples, as Traditional Owners and Custodians of Murujuga. 

A place of outstanding natural beauty, Murujuga Cultural Landscape is nominated for World Heritage Listing for its more than one millions petroglyphs, dating back over 50,000 years, its cultural traditions spanning the same period, and as an outstanding example of human interaction with the environment through periods of significant climatic change. 

As Project Coordinator, you will work with relevant stakeholders to co-ordinate the necessary governance, documents and logistics required for the ongoing operation of the Murujuga Rock Art Monitoring Program and Murujuga Rock Art Management Strategy. 

In addition, this position will work with dedicated Murujuga Rock Art Strategy rangers to develop and implement a training program that incorporates custom micro-qualifications, appropriate licenses, and environmental credentials as well as skills in project management and leadership to ensure that MAC Rangers have the capacity to manage the ongoing monitoring program and management strategy. 

Position and Broad Outline of Duties

Murujuga Rock Art Strategy / Rock Art Monitoring Program

  • Coordination of the MRAS Rangers in consultation with the Murujuga Ranger Services Manager, Murujuga Heritage Research Manager, Curtin University, Calibre Group, Department of Water Environmental and Regulations (DWER).
  • Provide feedback and contribute to written reports, research designs, media statements, implementation plans, works schedule and correspondence.
  • Co-ordinate training, certification, and documentation for Murujuga Rangers in relation to the Rock Art Monitoring Program.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of monitoring results in partnership with Curtin University and Cailbre Group.
  • Develop forms for the accurate and detailed recording of monitoring results within the internal MAC Cultural Heritage Management System.
  • Supporting the Chief Executive Officer as MAC’s nominated representative for the Stakeholder Reference Group (SRG) including attending regular monthly progress meetings, quarterly contract meetings, risk review workshops and internal OHS briefings.
  • Support Murujuga Rock Art Strategy Rangers to present results and management options to the Circle of Elders and Board of Directors as required.
  • Build project management and leadership capacity amongst the Murujuga Rock Art Strategy Rangers for the long-term management of the Murujuga Rock Art Strategy and Monitoring Program.
  • Working with the Murujuga Ranger Manager, build capacity within the broader MAC Ranger team to support on Murujuga Rock Art Management Strategy and Monitoring Program.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to manage MAC’s responsibilities under various contracts and funding agreements related to the Murujuga Rock Art Management Strategy and Monitoring Program.
  • Prepare regular reports for this program for review by the Executive Management Team and the Board of Directors.
  • In collaboration with other internal and external parties prepare content for funding agreement applications.
  • Other duties as required and directed.

Environmental & Project Management Support 

  • Working with the Heritage Research Manager, provide support in the review and negotiation of environmental approval documents. 
  • Working with the Heritage Research Manager, external consultants and industry partners, assist on the coordination of environmental and heritage surveys as required.
  • Assist in the review, presentation and endorsement of environmental and heritage survey reports as required.
  • Support the Heritage Research Manager in the collation and summarizing of documentation for environmental and heritage reviews and submissions as required.
  • Ensure processes are in place and adhered to in order to comply with Work Health Safety and Child Protection Policy and procedures. 
  • Other duties as required and directed.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary level qualifications in education, environmental science and/or equivalent industry experience in the relevant field.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience in working with Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and/or professional mentoring.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • This position requires the incumbent to hold a Working with Children Check and a National Police Clearance.

Desired Criteria

  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing, designing and developing resource materials for training.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal Heritage and Aboriginal Culture.
  • Understanding of State and Federal environmental and heritage legislation.
  • Experience in developing curriculum and/or training/assessing according to curriculum.
  • Experience in adaptive training/educational support according to individual needs and abilities.
