About the role
In consultation with the Executive Officer, you will coordinate all aspects two new community bushwalking programs to ensure their successful delivery.
The role will involve:
- Coordinating the programs including scheduling of walks (including liaising with partner organisations, walk leaders and participants); collecting participant information; preparing information packs; maintaining the program schedule and budget.
- Collaborating with participating organisations, other stakeholders and partners to support walk leaders, recruit walk participants, leverage resources and maximise program impacts and sustainability.
- Promoting the benefits of walking in the outdoors, safe and responsible bushwalking practices, and awareness of further hiking opportunities for ongoing participation.
- Assisting in evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of the program.
About HikeWest
HikeWest is a not-for-profit association committed to encouraging and supporting the community to pursue health and happiness by walking in nature. We advocate in the interests of anyone who bushwalks, hikes or walks in nature. Most bushwalking clubs in WA are HikeWest affiliates. Since 2023, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has recognised HikeWest as a State Active Recreation Organisation and the pre-eminent representative organisation for hiking in WA.
Skills and experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project coordination, preferably in community development or outdoor recreation.
Strong organisational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and deliver projects within budget.
Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships and inclusive environments with diverse stakeholders and individuals of all ages, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds
Collaborative and team-oriented approach is vital for working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Additional information
- This is a contract position for approximately 15–20 hours per week from April to November.
- Flexibility regarding work days. The role may involve occasional weekend or evening work to accommodate program activities and events.
- The successful candidate will predominantly work from home and must have their own laptop, phone and good internet connection at home.
- A love of hiking/bushwalking will be viewed favourably.
- The successful candidate will need to be able to pass a police check.
