About the role
The Project Engineer will be part of the national engineering team supporting the whole of Securitas Australia and will be working alongside Project Managers and other Securitas staff on delivery of projects of various sizes providing design and engineering services and technical oversight.
This role also involves working with estimators and sales professionals on tender bids, conducting pre-sales engineering as well as estimates and compliance review.
Position Responsibilities and Duties
- Review documentation including specifications and briefs to understand Securitas’ obligations and scope.
- Develop documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, network diagrams, installation details, panel details, rack elevations, point schedules and others.
- Collaborate with the drafting and BIM personnel on projects to get drawings and models developed from design development, shop drawings, construction through to as-builts.
- Perform QA/QC on documentation including peer review of other engineer’s work.
- Design security solutions including Video Surveillance, Electronic Access Control, Perimeter Intrusion Detection, Intercom, and other electronic systems to meet project requirements.
- Identify any technical risks or potential variations resulting from design changes.
- Develop bills of quantities for equipment and materials and work with manufacturers on ensuring that the equipment and materials procured under each project are fit for purpose and meet all regional codes and standard.
- Keep track of design changes and equipment quantities from tender through to as-built.
- Through correspondence and/or documentation, coordinate with the general contractor, other trades, and the principal. Communicate Securitas’ dependencies on those parties.
- Develop commissioning documentation including ITPs and ITR/ITCs, Commissioning Plans.
- Conduct site audits as required to document existing installations, plan new installations or for QA/QC activities.
- Attend meetings and workshops and represent Securitas from a design and engineering standpoint.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- At least 3 years experience in Electronic Security and design.
- Video Surveillance including camera placement and selection, pixel density calculations, storage calculations, understanding of lens and camera optics.
- Electronic Access Control including panel design, power budget calculations for PSUs, voltage drop calculations, cable sizing, lock selection, National Construction Code and how it applies to EACS
- Intercom including LAN and / or SIP connections.
- Electronics knowledge of electronic circuits that are used in Electronic Security systems.
- Networking – understanding of networks, switches and networking concepts including VLANs and Subnetting.
- Structured cabling including Optical Fibre – knowledge of applicable standards and understanding of different types of cable types their applications and limitations.
- Must be competent in using the following software:
- MS Excel, MS Word
- MS Visio
- AutoCAD or other CAD software
