  • Full time  fixed term for 3 years at Camperdown Campus with hybrid working conditions

  • Exciting opportunity to manage meaningful Clinical Trials and research projects at the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trials Centre

  • Starting salary $121,508 plus generous 17% superannuation  

About the opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship academic research organisation within the University of Sydney. The CTC develops and conducts large, multicentre, and international investigator-initiated Clinical Trials, commonly in collaboration with national and international research groups, and contributes expertise to trials run by others. The research conducted by the CTC covers a broad range of therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology, diabetology, nephrology, neonatal and perinatal health, and respiratory disease.  Our clinical trial operations team plays a key role in the delivery of high-quality and impactful academic research.  

The CTC employs over 260 staff who share a combined passion for high quality Clinical Trials and research. We are seeking applicants to cover a number of roles across our growing academic research organisation. The Clinical Trial Project Manager role, will lead a team, and manage Clinical Trials and research projects within one or more therapeutic areas.  This position reports to the Clinical Trials Program Manager and has direct reports.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide oversight on a number of Clinical Trials in one or more of the clinical trial programs and successfully manage the clinical trial operations from start up to close out 

  • work collaboratively with the various stakeholders of the project including, research collaborators, funders, vendors, project team members, relevant internal specialist groups including Contracts Management, Vendor Management, Quality and Compliance, Biomarker Research Support, Clinical Data Systems, Statistics and Clinical Data Management, other Clinical Trial Project Managers and the CTC Senior Leadership Team  

  • manage team members to foster a high-performing team to success and ensure that Personal and Professional Development (PPD) practices are adopted and implemented  

  • implement changes and work practice improvements with respect to current CTC Clinical Trials practices and contribute as a CTC member to future strategic directions of the CTC

  • provide administrative and other support tasks associated with Clinical Trials and other research projects.   

About you

  • postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

  • extensive relevant working experience in project management or coordination of Clinical Trials and other research projects  

  • financial management experience and literacy, experience in managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure  

  • knowledge of clinical trial requirements during their lifecycle from start up to close out, including a detailed understanding of the regulatory and ethical approval process across Australia, as well as a thorough knowledge of ICH Guidelines and Good Clinical Practice   

  • demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team, and to support and develop team members in their activities and professional development (line management experience desirable) 

  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes  

  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters   

  • proven ability to identify problems, make recommendations and implement appropriate solutions 

  • the ability and willingness to travel (<20% of time).
