- Review contract and specification to develop methodology and staffing requirements to meet or exceed contracted requirements.
- Ensure equipment and materials are delivered at specified times to conform to work schedule and contract requirements.
- Attend regular meetings with project personnel, projects contractors and Client representatives to ensure effective project performance, communication of progress and management of positive relationships.
- Utilise clear communication channels to ensure that a full understanding of the work scope is achieved amongst project personnel.
- Confer with and direct supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
- Confer with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of equipment and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to contract specifications and the construction schedule is adhered to.
- Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
- Is responsible for overall safety performance on the works. Liaises with Senior management to obtain assistance and advice where required.
- Ensure that client works are completed to the required quality, safety and environmental standards.
- Oversee all aspects of refractory project management from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including detailed schedules, resource allocation, and risk management strategies specific to refractory works.
- Conduct thorough technical assessments of refractory requirements, including material selection, lining design, and installation methodologies, considering factors such as temperature, chemical exposure, and mechanical stress.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate refractory solutions into overall project designs, providing technical expertise and guidance on refractory material properties and performance.
- Lead procurement activities for refractory materials and services, liaising with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of quality products meeting project specifications.
- Implement robust quality control processes throughout refractory installation activities, conducting inspections and testing to verify compliance with design standards and performance criteria.
- Manage subcontractors and construction crews involved in refractory installation, providing direction, oversight, and technical support to ensure safe and efficient execution of works.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, contractors, and internal teams, to address technical challenges and resolve issues promptly.
- Monitor project progress and performance metrics related to refractory works, identifying deviations from plan and implementing corrective actions as necessary to mitigate risks and maintain project objectives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements governing refractory construction, including safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality assurance standards.
- Engineering Degree or Similar
- Project Management and / or Management Training or Qualifications
- Refractory Inspection Certification
- Quality Control and Assurance Certification
- Construction Inspection Certifications – NACE
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite of programmes.
- Ability to understand technical drawings and effectively extract the information you require.
- At least ten (10) years’ technical experience in large resource industry projects.
