About The BUSY School…

The BUSY School is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting over 45 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, NDIS, disability employment support, and allied health services.

The BUSY School is an independent Special Assistance School with 8 campuses across Cairns, Brisbane, and Gold Coast/Coolangatta, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education.

Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.


About the position...

The BUSY Group is seeking to establish a Charter School in New Zealand offering alternative education options for students in Years 9 to 13 who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The BUSY model of education aims to re-engage students in education to complete secondary school, while gaining a head start into employment through vocational training pathways that form part of the curriculum. The school offers a supportive environment where students will complete NCEA subjects, vocational education and training studies and progress towards employment or further education and training outcomes.

The primary purpose of this position is to create all key aspects of the New Zealand National Curriculum, aligned to the requirements of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and any other regulatory bodies or frameworks, for secondary students in Years 9 – 13.  This role will lead all aspects of curriculum development to ensure the school is capable of seeking and achieving accreditation to deliver the full national curriculum for the identified year levels, including mandatory subjects for younger years and the New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement, Levels 1, 2 and 3 for senior years.

This position is full time, fixed term for 3 months working remotely from home.

About you...

  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, working with curriculum in New Zealand
  • You hold full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration as a Teacher in New Zealand or Australia
  • Ability to work within the curriculum of secondary education
  • Demonstrated proficiency within a highly regulated environment, with regards to documentation, record keeping, reporting and compliance
  • High level of time management skills and attention to detail
  • A relevant degree in secondary education 
  • Proven ability to model quality senior secondary teaching and learning skills utilising a broad range of learning strategies, technologies and techniques
