About the role
This permanent Property Officer - Legal position reports to the Property Team Leader. You will be responsible for actively leading property transactions on behalf of Council along with delivering specialist advice to support property transactions.
We are looking for a highly capable individual with strong technical expertise relating to property tenure and the ability to draft and negotiate appropriate documentation on a range of differing property transactions. This position offers the opportunity to deliver practical and customer-focused advice across Council and to lead effective engagement and negotiation with a range of stakeholders.
Requirements of the role will also include:
- Draft, negotiate and administer appropriate legal contracts to give effect to property transactions.
- Lead negotiation of new and renewed tenure arrangements on Council-owned land, including lease and licence agreements.
- Provide advice regarding compulsory acquisition processes under the Acquisition of Land Act 1967 (Qld)
- Draft and deliver reports to Council having regard to statutory obligations and governance procedures.
- Deliver specialist advice to Councillors, other branches and members of the public on a wide range of property related matters.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have qualifications in law with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience (or other relevant discipline/equivalent experience). You will be a technically competent property professional, with excellent knowledge of the Land Titles Act 1994 (Qld), Land Act 1994 (Qld), Property Land Act 1974 (Qld) and Duties Act 2001 (Qld).
You will have practical experience in Queensland property law, including sale and purchase of land, reserve land transactions, legal due diligence, leasing and general property matters as well as a sound understanding of practice within the land title registry regarding land title and tenure matters, preferably in a local government context. Knowledge of the requirements of the Local Government Act will be well regarded.
You will be collaborative, engaging and have the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.
You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong attention to detail. You will be focused on continuous improvement of business systems and use your collaboration skills to achieve the strategic goals of the team along with working effectively to embed a productive and positive team culture.
Minimum role requirements:
- Possession of a current "C" class driver's licence.
- Ability to successfully pass all background related checks.
