Exciting opportunities exist for a motivated Paediatric Provisional Fellow to join a leading healthcare provider, on the Sapphire Coast region of NSW.

Fast Facts:

· 2 hours from Canberra, 1 hour flight to Melbourne or Sydney

· Strong focus on education and service development

· Training and career progression

· Accredited with the RACP for paediatric specialist training

The position:

This position provides trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education and training as well as research and strategic leadership with support from the team consultants and other health care professionals.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of paediatricians as our paediatric Provisional Fellow. We are a friendly, innovative and exciting team who are motivated and interested in rural and complex paediatric medicine.

The work includes acute paediatric inpatient service, emergency department, neonatal resuscitation, special care nursery and outpatient clinic (including paediatric developmental services). We are a 6-bed plus 4-short stay bed Level 4 Paediatric Unit that services a wide variety of regions on  the NSW Sapphire Coast. We support an experienced emergency department with around 4000 paediatric emergency presentations per year. We have a 2-bed special care nursery and provide a Level 3 maternity service and Level 2 “plus” neonatal service that delivers around 300 babies per annum. We also have a varied outpatient caseload with challenging and interesting paediatric medicine and developmental/behavioural medicine.

The successful candidate will provide paediatric services across all of these settings described above; support and supervision of Junior Medical staff and medical students; leadership in teaching and training for junior medical, medical students and nursing staff; opportunities to act “first on call” for the paediatric consultant; and opportunities for research and service development project leadership - under the support and supervision of the paediatric consultants.

The position is accredited with the RACP for paediatric specialist training. The trainee will meet requirements for rural general paediatrics with no neonatal component and community/developmental paediatrics as part of a 12 month term.

The hospital:

Within our Local Health District we are working to help our communities lead healthy lives. Our mission is that all people across our diverse societies are able to have timely access to the right healthcare in the right setting to maximise their health, wellbeing and independence.

We serve both regional and rural communities of 202,000 residents (2.5% of the total NSW population) in an area covering 44,534 square kilometres over seven local government areas.

We have a strong emphasis on education and training and there are teaching opportunities across undergraduate, pre-vocational and vocational training, and GP specialist training levels. We also place strong emphasis on education and support to the surrounding hospitals of our region. We also have strong links with the Australian National University Graduate Medical School including rural medical students placed during paediatric terms.

We provide a range of quality acute, subacute, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care and community and ambulatory care to the people of south eastern NSW.

Our role is to ensure that our communities have access to safe, appropriate and quality health services now and into the future.

The location:This stunning coastal NSW region is situated halfway between Melbourne and Sydney, a short 1-hour flight from either Melbourne or Sydney or a 2 ½ hour drive from Canberra. We comprise 75% national parks with spectacular coastline, turquoise crystal clear water, pristine wilderness and more than 100 unspoilt beaches. It is a stunning outdoor lifestyle for those interested in beach, surf, skiing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, fishing or other outdoor adventures.

The area is home to more than 200,000 residents including four large Aboriginal nations: Gundungurra, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin. The population is expected to keep growing, with the fastest-growing age group aged 65 and over.
