The Aboriginal Empowerment Unit
This position sits within the (AEU) within the Resource and Environmental Regulation (RER) Group, established to coordinate and deliver the departments Aboriginal Empowerment Initiative (AEI).
The AEU ensures policies, practices and administration of resource development are appropriate and respectful of Aboriginal people, establishing formal pathways for Aboriginal people to contribute to the way that resource development is regulated and works to increase the department's workforce identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Pursuant to Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible for appointment to this position.
The role
As a Regional Aboriginal Engagement Coordinator, you will plan and lead the activities of the regional Aboriginal engagement team to provide high quality and professional services to stakeholders in the regions.
Your role will be pivotal in bridging the gap between the regional team and various parts of the department, allowing Aboriginal communities formal channels to have their say and access to DEMIRS regional officers to meet, listen and provide information.
Your experience in applying engagement strategies will assist in ensuring consistent work practices and procedures across the regions. You will plan, coordinate and lead on-Country engagement, establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and build a high-performing regional team.
Your high standard of communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain networks and engage key stakeholders will be valuable for this role.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months.

This position is in Karratha, a city in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, adjoining the port of Dampier. Located approximately 1,535 kilometres north of Perth, it offers high quality amenities and infrastructure.
