Job description

We are seeking a Regulatory Officer to join our team in the Townsville office, North Queensland Region. This is a temporary full-time position until 20 December 2024, unless otherwise determined. If you are passionate about early childhood education and supporting a strong start for children this is the job for you. The North Queensland Region is seeking applicants with current early childhood knowledge, understanding and knowledge of regulatory or monitoring experience and an ability to rapidly acquire skills and a working knowledge relating to the provision of quality early childhood education and care.

About Us:

The Department of Education (DoE) sets the foundations for quality early learning experiences and delivers world class education services.  The department also hosts the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority.  As the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority, the department is responsible for regulating Queensland's early childhood education and care sector and also responsible for assessing and rating the quality of Queensland early childhood education and care services against the National Quality Standard. The NQS is a key aspect of the National Quality Framework and sets a national benchmark for early childhood education and care services.

About the Role:

As the Regulatory Officer you will:

  • Support the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority by consistently and fairly applying relevant early childhood education and care (ECEC) legislation, standards, policies and guidelines in the regulation of the ECEC sector within the context of the Regulating for Quality policy.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including ECEC providers and services to achieve regulatory outcomes.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Performing activities associated with assessing applications, quality assessment and compliance in accordance with the legislation and principles of good administrative decision making to support the regulatory authority to undertake its functions, escalating as required.
  • Assessing incoming regulatory information such as notifications and complaints from ECEC providers and services, other government agencies as well as the general public, in accordance with the ECEC legislation.
  • Identifying risks and issues, accurately interpreting legislation, exercising powers, gathering evidence and making recommendations to support delegated decision-makers.
  • Maintaining the integrity, confidentiality and accuracy of official records, information, correspondence and data in accordance with the legislation and departmental protocols.
  • Capturing accurate and timely data using regulatory systems and identifying issues to improve data quality and process efficiency.
