The Early Childhood Education Group works in close collaboration and partnership with other Groups in the Department, Statutory Authorities, Local Governments and with service delivery partners, parents and families.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) leads on Victorian Child Information and Early Childhood Systems reforms and will continue to refine and implement Child Link and the Kindergarten Information Management System (KIMS) and will lead on the delivery of technology to support measuring attendance at kindergarten. In working together, we will make the best use of information and data to contribute to better outcomes for children today and into the future. Responding to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse, Child Information Sharing (CIS) reforms promote the optimisation of children's engagement in government-funded services, and a shared commitment to child well-being and safety across services and communities.

Child Link is an IT enabler to integrate data across government services to provide a consolidated view of information about children. Child Link is an innovative initiative that will provide a consolidated view of child data and drive transformational practices and behaviour to improve outcomes for children.

KIMS is an online system for kindergarten funding applications, data collection and reporting. A KIMS Reform project is currently underway and is aimed at replacing the current legacy system with a modern flexible system with improved functionality to support the delivery of three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten and the Early Childhood reforms.

The Victorian Child Information Sharing and Early Childhood Systems Division are made up of a number of branches and teams, which work collaboratively together to achieve the Whole of Victorian Government and Divisional goals. These branches are:

  • Offices of the Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer
  • Reform, Strategy, Policy and Change Branch
  • Stakeholders, Implementation and Training Branch
  • Child Link Solutions Development Branch
  • Child Link System Operations Branch
  • Early Childhood Systems Branch

The purpose of this role is to support the effective delivery of releases of the Kindergarten Information Management System (KIMS). In particular, the role will be integral in providing delivery and release management support and defining components of the project plan for the ongoing enhancement of the system.

This role will support the Delivery Management team by performing key release coordination activities, governance, planning, reporting and ensuring that the team is optimised and providing value. The release coordinator will be responsible for the planning and scheduling of software releases. They will need to work closely with technical and business Subject Matter Experts to plan and communicate release schedules across all KIMS streams, including dependencies and impacts. They will be expected to use their experience in blending traditional project principles and practises with a tailored Agile development approach to fit large, complex, business-critical projects with the appropriate level of planning and provide the right balance of agility and predictability.
