The region stretches from Barrow Creek in the south all the way up to Newcastle Waters, and East to the Queensland border.
In the centre of the Northern Territory and the Barkly Region is Tennant Creek, the largest town in the region and where our Council's operations are based. There are a total of six towns in the Barkly, all with surrounding urban communities, and eight minor communities across the region.
Ali Curung is an Indigenous Australian Community located 170km south of Tennant Creek and 378km north of Alice Springs. This small community town includes Council Office, Church, Community Hall, School, Library, Women’s Centre, Childcare Centre, Aged Care Centre, Banking, Local Store, Bakery, Police Station, Fuel Station and an Art and Culture Centre.
Trust and understanding drive collaboration among our communities, supported by the Barkly Regional Council. Embracing a shared vision across cultures poses challenges, but time and dedication ensure the needs of remote communities are met.
