Job description

The Reportable Incident Officer is responsible for assessing and triaging client incidents, determining if they meet the threshold of a Reportable Incident, managing and submitting notifications to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This role ensures compliance with regulations and timelines in line with National Legislation as well as Novita policies and procedures. The Reportable Incident Officer works collaboratively with key internal stakeholders including senior leadership, operational managers and clinical subject matter experts to facilitate the investigation and management of Reportable Incidents.

Position Responsibilities

The Reportable Incident Officer is responsible for:

  • Assessing and reviewing client incident reports to determine if they meet the threshold of Reportable Incident to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • Working with operational management and human resources to gather information for initial and follow up reports to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • Monitoring and reviewing incident remedial action and outcomes to ensure timeliness of completion and outstanding actions are followed up with operational management.
  • Completing data input into the NDIS Quality and Safeguards portal, compiling information from existing Novita systems, client services, and other sources.
  • Responding to incoming inquiries and emails in a sensitive, professional and timely manner.
  • Working with Manager Quality and Risk to highlight trends and potential business improvements that meet and exceed quality and risk standards.
  • Being an active member and working closely with all members of the Quality and Risk team and contributing to team objectives.

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive working relationship with external and internal stakeholders in all areas of the role. 
  • Process Optimisation: Provide sound advice and on the ground support to proactively lead process improvement and compliance across the organisation. 
  • Governance: Compliance with all relevant legislation and policy in all areas. 

Education & Qualification

  • A qualification in a related discipline or other relevant experience/qualifications.
  • Relevant experience in NDIS regulatory environment.

Ideal Candidate

  • Ability to develop influential working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external to the Commission.
  • An understanding of Reportable Incidents handling processes to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Sound analytical skills to evaluate Reportable Incidents and related issues and contribute to solutions, advice and capacity building.
  • Sound written communications skills.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and the capacity to manage competing demands and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement to achieve quality outcomes.
  • The ability, and the confidence, to make sound judgements and decisions based on thorough research, problem-solving, innovation and evidence-based practice, to achieve the objectives of the Reportable Incidents handling function, and the Commission more broadly.
  • Resilience and taking responsibility for individual health and welfare.
