As part of our organisation, you will have the chance to work with leaders in fisheries management, policy, and research on a range of projects focused on maximising fishing experiences in Western Australia.
We are seeking an experienced person to assist with Research and Community Engagement on jetties and fishing infrastructure, that will contribute to supporting ongoing access for recreational fishers.

Position: Research and Community Engagement Officer
Location: Hillarys, WA
Type: Full-time, 12 Month fixed-term contract
Key Responsibilities:
Research Project Support: Assist senior staff in planning, designing, and conducting research into jetties and fishing infrastructure throughout Western Australia.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local fishing communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to gather insights and ensure the success of the research project.
Report Preparation: Contribute to the creation of research reports, highlighting findings, recommendations, and best practices in the context of recreational fishing infrastructure.
Contribution to Strategy: Provide research-based recommendations for enhancing the quality and sustainability of fishing infrastructure, helping to shape the organisation's strategic goals.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on current trends, regulations, and innovations in the field of recreational fishing, contributing to the organisation's knowledge base.
Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
Essential:
Passion for Recreational Fishing: A strong personal interest in fishing and a reasonable understanding of the culture and needs of recreational fishers.
Research Skills: Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and report writing.
Project Management Skills: Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering project objectives.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desirable:
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, marine biology, fisheries management, or a related field.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges in a dynamic Research and policy environment.
Attention to Detail: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Availability for Field Work: Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork as required by the project.
Local Knowledge: Familiarity with regional fishing communities and knowledge of the fishing infrastructure in the region is a strong advantage.
Engineering Acumen: Ability to understand basic engineering and construction principles associated with jetties and platforms.
