Job description

About the role:

The Community Engagement team plays a pivotal role in maintaining the trust and goodwill between the City of Swan (the City) and our community. We currently have 2 x permanent full-time opportunities for  Community Engagement Officers to join our Community Engagement team.

Our Community Engagement Officers ensure that the City delivers best practice consultation and engagement in line with our values and principles. Working in partnership with internal stakeholders, you will plan, implement and evaluate Community Engagement programs that include digital, face-to-face and printed elements.

These roles require candidates who are self-motivated, can work autonomously and show initiative. You will have a strong customer service mindset, a high capacity to manage multiple tasks and produce outputs quickly, a proven ability to build strong professional networks and relationships, and an advanced understanding of Community Engagement in line with IAP2. Outstanding interpersonal skills, a can-do mindset, and an innovative and creative approach to problem-solving are also crucial to this role.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in partnership with internal business units to plan, implement and evaluate Community Engagement programs.
  • Uphold the City’s Stakeholder and Community Engagement approach.
  • Strengthen the City’s relationships with the community, following the principles of the IAP2 Spectrum of Public Participation and ensuring City consultations and engagements align with best practice.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on what best practice engagement looks like, and why it is important to their projects and the City as a whole.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of local issues and community priorities, and how this relates to the City’s activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Represent the City at relevant meetings, workshops and events.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience delivering successful engagement programs
  • Relevant qualifications and professional experience
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance
  • Working With Children Check or willingness to obtain as part of the recruitment process

The salary for this position will be from $87,898.52 to $103,784.24 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.

About the City:

The City of Swan, located north east of Perth, is the largest local government by land size in the Perth metropolitan area, and has one of the fastest growing populations.
