About This Opportunity 

The Children’s Health and Environment Program conducts a range of studies of childhood illnesses and exposure to environmental hazards and resulting health effects. The Research Assistant will support several research projects that focus on the development and validation of novel lung function techniques. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Group Leader of Respiratory Physiology to aid in data collection, cleaning, and analysis of lung function data across a number of projects. Where appropriate the appointee will assist with writing manuscripts, grant applications, and other duties as required.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Work closely with the Group Leader to collect lung function data and relevant clinical information as required by various studies.

  • Data cleaning and entry into online database records.

  • Assist with data analysis and writing of results in collaboration with the Group Leader.

  • Assist with drafting of research documentation for progress reports, team meetings, conferences, ethics committees, funding opportunities, media opportunities etc.

  • Assists with clinical education activities, such as patient and carer information sessions, department information seminars etc.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 12 months.

At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396.47 - $86,029.78 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,553.87 - $100,654.84 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  
  • A qualification (Bachelor’s degree or higher) in health sciences, physiology, nursing, or a related field; or completion of a Diploma with relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Experience in lung function measurements in children and/or adults and a working understanding of assessing quality and repeatability of measurements.

  • Experience in working in a clinical research environment, in particular confidence with patient interaction and biological sample collection.

  • An ability to maintain accurate records and be confident navigating computer systems.

  • A basic understanding of online databases, statistical packages and data analysis.

  • Previous experience with manuscript preparation and/or grant writing.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

  • Blue Card: It is a condition of employment for this role that you possess or have the ability to obtain, a Blue Card for working with children.
