Eating Disorder Service Research Coordinator (Permanent Part Time) The SCHN Eating Disorder Service (EDS) is a large service operating at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. The EDS treats young people with anorexia nervosa and other Eating Disorders from all over New South Wales. Inpatient re-feeding admissions, outpatient treatment, intensive day treatment, family admission program, parent groups and an extensive family therapy program are offered. The EDS also has a well-established clinical research program and regularly provides training, education and supervision to other services. The EDS is jointly managed and staffed by the Department of Psychological Medicine and Department of Adolescent Medicine. The service has a medical and allied health co-lead who are responsible for the strategic direction and daily management of the staff and programs.
This position is based in the Department of Psychological Medicine and will provide services at the The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and Eating Disorder Intensive Program for Adolescents at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. The position will contribute to strategic planning and conduct of research activities in the Eating Disorder Service. This will include co-ordinating research projects, consulting with staff planning or undertaking research, analyse data, write ethics and grant applications, journal articles for publication, and provide training and teaching as requested. Supporting supplementary research projects of both staff and students. Ensuring research is carried out according SCHN ethics guidelines.

What you'll be doing
The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN) includes the Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) and the Children’s Hospital Westmead (CHW). It is the largest provider of children’s health services in Australia. Research — alongside clinical care, education, and advocacy — is a key pillar of SCHN. SCHN Kids Research Institute has approximately 600 researchers and support staff.
The SCHN Department of Psychological Medicine spans the Randwick and Westmead precincts and is the largest child and adolescent mental health service in NSW. The Department provides assessment and treatment to children with mental illness or neurodevelopmental disorders — the leading causes of disability in children and young people. Clinical services including two dedicated inpatient mental health units, psychiatric emergency teams, and consultation-liaison services at each precincts. Additionally the Department has nationally leading gender dysphoria, Eating Disorders, intellectual disability, and functional neurological disorder clinical services and provides the largest telemedicine child and adolescent psychiatry service in Australia to regional NSW.
The Department seeks to expand its research, education and advocacy capacity to transform the clinical care of children with mental illness. To achieve this, the Department supports higher degree research (HDR) students — Honours, Masters, and PhD develop the research capacity of clinicians. The Department encourages academic appointments by its affiliation with two of Australia’s ‘Group of 8’ universities — UNSW Sydney and The University of Sydney. Psychological Medicine works closely with the SCHN Research Ethics and Research Governance teams to ensure best practice.
The role of the Research Officer is to advise, support, and enable research activities across the Department under the direction of Heads of Department and advice from the Departments
‘Clinical Academic. The Research Officer consults on all aspects of research, including methodological design, ethics submissions, data collection and analysis, database management, writing and publication.
  • Tertiary qualification or other relevant discipline and /or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated skills in research ethics protocol management.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills in research database management and scientific writing.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills in statistical analysis using software such as R studio.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Capacity to prepare and/or contribute to successful research proposals to external funding bodies and agencies.
  • The ability to assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and practices.
  • The ability to take initiative, work collaboratively with all stakeholders and as part of a team.
