STELaRLab – Hypersonics Research Team
STELaRLab are partnering with Australia’s finest minds and academic institutions to solve some of the world ‘s enduring and emerging challenges.
Australia has a long and distinguished history in hypersonic research and flight testing. Engineers at Lockheed Martin Australia are building on this heritage of high-speed flight research by leveraging the latest advances in sensing, space systems, control, and other technology areas, to enable the next wave of mission-critical hypersonic systems.

Responsibilities:
As a member of STELaRLab’s hypersonics research team, you’ll lead Research and Development into new technologies to solve complex problems related to hypersonic strike and defence using your knowledge in aerospace, mechanical, systems engineering, physics, operations analysis, computational sciences and/or mathematics. This will include leading internal Lockheed Martin Australia research activities, and collaborating with universities, other industry, and government customers and partners.
About you:
- Tertiary degree qualifications in a relevant Engineering, Science, or related discipline.
- Substantial experience and/or strong understanding of experimental and numerical analysis methods, ideally including the application of these methods to high-speed flight research.
- Programming knowledge and expertise to support development of engineering models and analysis of aerospace systems.
- Relevant experience with C++, python, MATLAB, or other programming languages.
Desirable - Candidates that may not address all of following desired experience are still encouraged to apply:
- Postgraduate qualifications (PhD or masters) from a recognised institute, or other relevant research experience
- Experience with Defence and/or weapon systems
- Experience and subject matter expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
- Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC)
- High-Speed Flight Test development and execution
- Propulsion and Rocket Motors
- Thermal Protection systems and high-temperature materials
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Systems Engineering
