The Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) was formed in 2006 and is one of Australia's largest university aquatic ecosystem research groups with globally recognised expertise in river, catchment and coastal ecosystems and the interaction with these systems in society. ARI combines outstanding scholarship with making a significant contribution to society through providing knowledge and advice. ARI's talented researchers offer essential insights into the water cycle's linkages, interconnectedness, and interdependencies.
This Research Fellow position will contribute to an ARC Discovery Project on Individual Based Modelling of Freshwater Harmful Cyanobacteria Blooms. The Research Fellow will have a key role in the project in developing and applying models in the project, as well as organising activities and management related to the project timetlines and field activities. The Research Fellow will work closely with the Chief Investigators on existing and new projects relating to cyanobacteria monitoring and modelling. The Research Fellow will contribute to project reporting and development of proposals. As a member of the Australian Rivers Institute, the Research Fellow will be expected to actively contribute to broader activities in ARI and Griffith University.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Develop and apply numerical models of cyanobacteria blooms, including scenarios to examine environmental change
- Curate large biophysical and spatial datasets and undertake statistical analysis.
- Schedule activities in the project according to the timelines in the project
- Liaise with overseas collaborators to ensure continuity of the project and fulfillment of collaborative activities associated with the project
- Develop a good publication record in high impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals. Manage and contribute towards the preparation and formulation of publications, figures and maps, presentations and research reports arising from the research.
- Assist with the development of research proposals, as appropriate.
- Seek competitive funding and assist with the development of research proposals, as appropriate.
This is a full time, fixed term (three year) position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1 range $84,830 - $99,367 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,251 - $116,259 per annum.
