Our Japanese Shinmachi restaurant located in Newtown has been in business for 12 years. We are just 5-mins walk from the train station. We are open 7 days a week, dinner on weekdays and lunch and dinner on weekends. Over the years, we have become a popular Japanese restaurant with many regular customers from Newtown and other suburbs.

JP FOOD SYSTEMS PTY LTD t/as JAPANESE TAPAS SHINMACHI is now seeking a dynamic and experienced full time Restaurant Manager to lead our team towards continued success. This role will suite someone who is passionate about Japanese cuisine, dedicated to delivering memorable dining experiences, and possess the leadership skills to inspire our team. The position in based in Newtown, Sydney. The offered remuneration $70,000 - $80,000pa + super depends on your experience.
- Recruit, train, and supervise wait-staff, bartenders, front of house, and kitchen teams.
- Create and maintain staff schedules, manage payroll, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism, and high-quality service.
Main Duties & Key Responsibilities:
- Cooperating with chefs on seasonal menus
- Creating events on holidays such as Easter, Christmas and New Years Eve.
- In charge of food and wage cost.
- Hiring and training staff (also offering work placement positions).
Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of restaurant operations, including front of house, bar, and kitchen activities.
- Ensure seamless coordination between wait-staff, bartenders, kitchen staff, and front of house for efficient service delivery.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and ambiance standards throughout the restaurant.
Staff Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and supervise wait-staff, bartenders, front of house, and kitchen teams.

- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism, and high-quality service.
Customer Experience:
- Uphold our commitment to exceptional customer service by setting and maintaining service standards.

- Work closely with staff to ensure guests receive personalized attention and recommendations.
Financial Management:
- Monitor sales, expenses, and inventory levels to achieve financial targets and maximize profitability.
- Implement cost-control measures without compromising food and service quality.
- Prepare financial reports and budgets, and make data-driven decisions to optimize restaurant performance.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, liquor laws, and health standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain compliance.
- Train staff on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and responsible alcohol service guidelines.
Essential Skills Criteria
- Diploma of Hospitality Management or higher or relevant equivalent
- At least 2 years proven experience in restaurant management, preferably in a similar upscale dining environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to deliver exceptional service.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of restaurant operations, including: oversee all aspects of restaurant operations, including front of house, bar, and kitchen activities.
- Be able to ensure seamless coordination between wait-staff, bartenders, kitchen staff, and front of house for efficient service delivery.
- Capable to maintain cleanliness, organization, and ambiance standards throughout the restaurant
- Knowledge of food and beverage service, inventory management, and financial analysis.
- Be familiar with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Available to work on the weekends & public holiday
- RSA
- Driving licence
- Knowledge of Open Table APP.
