We are seeking to appoint a Risk and Compliance Manager to join the Melbourne Girls Grammar Operations team. This position reports directly to and works in conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer and key stakeholders to manage, improve and oversee RISK AND ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines.
The focus of this position is to ensure the School meets a broad range of mandated RISK AND COMPLIANCE requirements as well as a wide array of day-to-day operational risks. In effect, the School looks to this role to advance and support a strong risk management, compliance and safety culture in all areas of its operation.
The Risk and Compliance Manager is a subject matter expert and is required to provide the School’s Principal, Executive Team and Board with appropriate advice and reporting to ensure that compliance requirements are understood, obligations are met and performance is clear. In addition to the oversight and control accountabilities, the Risk and Compliance Manager must also be an enabling resource that assists informed decision-making and supports a broad range of School activities. This position has access to sensitive information and must exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
Key responsibilities will include:
Ensuring the alignment of the School’s governance, RISK AND COMPLIANCE frameworks with the overall strategic objectives.
Providing assurance to the School’s key stakeholders in relation to overall compliance with the Non-Government School Registration Standards and related laws and regulations.
Working with key stakeholders to ensure the School maximises strategic and operational outcomes using the compliance software (CompliSpace Assurance).
Ensuring the timely and accurate preparations of risk reports for the Principal, Executive Team and School Council on a quarterly basis.
Providing input and expertise on all risk issues, conducting risk assessments and ensuring safe work practices are developed and adhered to.
Liaising with stakeholder groups, particularly Facilities, HR, and the Artemis Centre, to ensure risk, compliance and safety requirements and obligations are met to a high standard of excellence.
Maintain high visibility within the School community and act as the first point of contact for day-to-day OHS queries, concerns and ideas.
Leading a whole-school culture of OHS, risk awareness AND COMPLIANCE.
Key Selection Criteria include but are not limited to:
Demonstrated risk management mindset and practical application of risk management technical knowledge.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines with which the School must comply.
Well-developed communication and inter-personal skills which build and maintain effective and positive working relationships with immediate supervisors, colleagues and key stakeholders including officials.
Ability to successfully manage change – able to partner with key stakeholders, ensure buy-in from staff, and manage individual and team reactions as safety or risk-mitigation solutions are implemented.
Ability to speak confidently and engagingly in front of small, medium and large groups.
Ability to disseminate important information/instructions in ways that make it easy to understand and follow.
The ideal candidate will have a high level of initiative and expertise with the ability to contribute positively in a values based environment. Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety and/or Risk Management, or other related discipline is required. Relevant work experience in a similar or related role including demonstrated ability to deliver on objectives is essential.
