Role Purpose

The role is focused on ensuring that Capricorn continues to foster a strong risk management culture and is compliant with all relevant aspects of relevant legislation in both Australia and New Zealand. As part of this role, operational level support will be required to be provided in the delivery of a multi-phased privacy uplift program, as well as providing practical risk advice and guidance to the business and overseeing Capricorn’s information management practices. The position collaborates closely with legal, cyber, technology as well as various senior leaders across the business.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop and maintain Capricorn’s risk owned frameworks, policies and procedures ensuring that they are compliant, remain fit for purpose and appropriate.

• Respond to and provide proactive practical guidance and advice to the business on new initiatives, undertaking privacy impact assessments and reviewing incidents and / or issues for systemic trends, root cause and business improvement opportunities.

• Overseeing the privacy practices operating within the business, provide assurance that controls are operating effectively and report on compliance to Senior Management.

• Assess the impacts of new regulatory changes on Capricorn and support business users in the interpretation, adoptions and embedding of the requirements.

• Support the Privacy officer in the development and maintenance of a robust risk management culture through education sessions and reviewing relevant content.

• Active involvement in Risk Control Self-Assessment activities as well as assisting in the management of any regulatory engagements, requests for Information and / or privacy complaints.

Information Management

• Promote the value of information as an asset and influence appropriate actions by Capricorn Senior Leaders.

• Coordinate the development and implementation of information management practices, including standards, guidelines, policies and procedures, including the retention and disposal schedule.

• Ensure records management at Capricorn is aligned to industry standards and best practices.

• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations and Capricorn standards for retention, disposal and protection of Information and records.

• Assist business units to understand and adhere to their responsibilities for information management through facilitation, coaching and sharing knowledge.

• Active partnering with technology and business stakeholders to establish appropriate information management tooling to optimise records management.

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to convey legal, regulatory and policy requirements in a simplified and easy-to-understand language.

• High attention to detail with solid business analytical, and problem resolution skills.

• Project management experience with an understanding of agile methodology.

• Demonstrated ability to provide direction, delegate and remove obstacles to get work done.

• Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to management complex stakeholder relationships.

• Awareness of the planned privacy law reforms being proposed in Australia.

• Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

Experience

• 5+ years hands on Consulting / compliance / regulatory risk experience, with a strong working knowledge of key Information Governance legislation including the Australian Privacy Principles and ideally the New Zealand Privacy Principles.

• Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, quantify, and effectively raise business risks associated with privacy or areas of non-compliance.

• Strong Project Management or Delivery of complex business initiatives desirable. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Commerce or related field is Desirable
