2024 Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse Program (PGMHNP)

- Seeking nurses that have completed a Graduate Mental Health Nurse Program and/or experienced registered nurses who are interested in working towards their specialist Mental Health nursing qualification and develop community Mental Health nursing skills.
About the Program:
- 12 month program commencing Feb 12 2024
- Full Time (1.0) and Part Time (0.8 EFT) Fixed Term opportunities are available in RMH MHS community Mental Health teams based in Moonee Ponds
- Includes clinical, theoretical and academic components as you work towards your specialist Mental Health Nursing qualification
- Postgraduates are well supported by PGMHNP Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Educators and Preceptors
- Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2, Year 2 - Year 8
- Salary range $68,754 to $87,282 per annum depending on experience (in accordance with relevant EA)
The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) provider Mental Health Servicesin the inner west suburbs of metroplitian Melbourne. These programs provide a comprehensive, integrated range of services to people with a serious mental illness and our multidisciplinary workforce of skilled and dynamic clinicians, consumers and carers, provide a recovery-oriented approach to care. We are dedicated to providing a caring and high-quality range of specialist, community and hospital-based Mental Health services for adult and older persons who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness.
The Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse Program is delivered by the RMH Mental Health Services is committed to developing the future workforce and as such, we welcome enthusiastic Registered Nurses with a passion for Mental Health and a desire to specialise in this exciting field to join our community Mental Health team/s to provide compassionate and responsive care to individuals in need.
The 12 month structured program supports the early career nurse in building on and further developing their Mental Health nursing knowledge and skills and supports the nurse in obtaining their postGraduate Mental Health nursing qualification. As a postgraduate Mental Health Nurse at RMH you will experience diverse, well rounded program that will support your development as a community Mental Health Nurse.

- Our program is structured and well supported as you undertake the postgraduate diploma of Mental Health nursing.
As a Postgraduate Mental Health Nurse, you will:
- Provide high quality standards of consumer care. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Perform nursing interventions and procedures in accordance with RMH/WH policy and procedures
- Recognise the responsibility to delegate nursing care as clinically appropriate
- Maintain an understanding of individual responsibility for consumer safety, quality and risk
- Participate in continuing education sessions, committees, special projects and relevant professional groups
- Promote a friendly, respectful and supportive environment within the department and organisation
- Contribute to the development of an effective discharge plan and provide consumer education and referral to appropriate community providers
About You
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in 2023
- An awareness of Mental Health nursing practice and recovery oriented approaches to care
- Enthusiasm and motivation to further develop skills and knowledge as a Mental Health Nurse including Mental Health practice - risk assessment, mental state assessment, care planning, recovery oriented approaches and relevant legislation as it applies to Mental Health nursing care
- Knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act (2022) and other relevant legislation
- A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development
- An understanding of the professional, ethical and legal responsibilities of Registered Nurses
- An understanding of the importance of compassionate nursing care which focuses on the best possible consumer outcomes
- Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- An ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
