Your Future Role
The Safety, Health and Environment Advisor plays a key role in supporting Austin’s commitment to providing a safe workplace. This includes identifying, developing, implementing, and improving Safety, Health and Environment practices, which provide the tools required by line management to meet Austin’s statutory and organizational objectives. As the Safety, Health and Environment Advisor, you will play a critical role in providing services and expertise to all members of the Austin workforce and contractors, ensuring we are one step closer to achieving our goal of an incident-free workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the National Safety, Health and Environmental Lead, you will:
- Actively promote and demonstrate a high level of communication by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate with key stakeholders to ensure improvements in service delivery and customer needs are identified and implemented.
- Conduct courageous conversations with Supervisors, Employees and Sub-Contractors in relation to unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviours.
- Assist with ensuring that Safety, Health and Environment goals and objectives are understood, widely communicated, and monitored and measured.
- Conducting and assisting with hazard identification and observations.
- Conducting and assisting with risk assessments.
- Assisting the Manufacturing Manager and Supervisors with hazard/risk elimination and coaching and mentoring supervisors and workers in hazard and risk control
- Promote environmental awareness and training on environmental matters to site based personnel.
- Assist with the development of environmental documentation and the submission of internal and statutory environmental reporting.
- Conduct safety inductions for new starters, returning employees and contractors. This includes copying/filing employees’ certificates & licenses.
- Deliver Safety, Health and Environment related training from time to time as appropriate.
- Liaise with the relevant supervisors to ensure that training obligations are being fulfilled.
- Assist in the preparation of safety related topics and information to be presented at weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings as requested.
- Leading and assisting with incident investigations.
- Support Workshop Supervisors and Employee’s investigation in the process to identify root cause of incident.
- Assist the National Safety, Health and Environment Leader to ensure compliance to statutory and organisational reporting requirements.
- Assist the National Safety, Health and Environment Leader to ensure appropriate controls are implemented to eliminate risk from investigation findings.
- Assist supervisors to facilitate the provision of prompt, appropriate attention to any injured employee.
- Assist in Managing workers' compensation programs to ensure injured employees receive appropriate medical treatment and compensation.
- Coordinate with insurance providers, facilitate claim processes, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate employee recovery and return to work.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience in the same role, or similar.
- Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (Desirable).
- Diploma in Quality Auditing (Desirable).
- Intermediate or Advanced level computer skills.
- Previous industry experience in heavy steel manufacturing.
