Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class ‘ETCS' signalling system.

About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Safety Manager to provide leadership and support for our Brownfield Rail and European Train Control System (ETCS) construction programs. Key to the role will be the implementation and maintenance of safety systems and initiatives as well as close collaboration and liaison with our key contracting partners to facilitate safety assurance and ensure the safety of our workforce.

Reporting directly to the Director, Safety and based at our corporate office conveniently located in Brisbane’s CBD, this opportunity will offered as a two-year fixed term contract with possible extension
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project teams to establish a safety-focused culture and set clear safety performance expectations and standards.
- Develop and implement safety processes and initiatives to foster safety ownership among line managers.
- Provide technical safety advice and support in the areas of critical risk management, incident investigation reviews and safety process implementation.
- Coordinate safety compliance and assurance activities, providing analysis and reporting on outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of CRRDA’s Health and Safety management system.
- Oversee and review the process and outcomes of safety incident investigations sharing best practices across the project.
- Prepare high level correspondence and reports with a strategic and operational safety focus.
- Establish safety forums and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors to deliver services aligned with CRRDA needs and priorities.
- Review safety systems and identify business improvement activities, risk mitigation strategies and supporting treatment plans.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in a safety related discipline.
- Experience leading contractor safety management within the construction or mining industry. Experience working within live rail operational environment is highly regarded.
- Ability to analyse data, articulate complex concepts and translate safety information accordingly into briefings, reports and presentations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex safety information into briefings, reports and presentations.
- Understanding of critical risks and verification processes in engineering and construction environments.
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence and coordinate stakeholders with potentially contrasting objectives.
- Experience leading safety from a client or tier one perspective, specifically in relation to managing safety through third parties.
