Applications via eCredential ONLY!The Neurology department at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is seeking a temporary Staff Specialist for a 0.2FTE Clinical Genetics position. The successful applicant must hold registration in Clinical Genetics. This position is available for immediate commencement through to 30th June 2026.The Sydney Children's Hospital department of Neurology has identified embedding a molecular targeting for existing and future therapeutics into routine patient care as a strategic area of focus in line with priorities of SCHN.The position of Staff Specialist - Clinical Genetics Neurology / Neuromuscular therapeutics will ensure that:
- Clinical services are focused on delivering excellent clinical care to children and supporting their families.
- Neurology/Neuromuscular patients have access to clear and clinically relevant phenotyping and cohorting for all patients (and where appropriate inclusion in registries).
- Patients and families have timely access to available genomic testing through both Medicare funded and research pipelines.
- Research and teaching is undertaken in the area of Clinical Genetics in with a focus on neuroscience and the evaluation of molecular targets for therapy.
There is a strong research program and the department is a major contributor to teaching at undergraduate (University of New South Wales) and postgraduate levels.The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient consultative services, teaching and research in
Clinical Genetics in the Neurology Department and take part in service development activities.In addition to clinical service provision, the successful applicant would be expected to contribute to development of the research program and teaching activities of the department. Previous research training and successful research output are a requirement for the position, as is experience in teaching.*You may be required to work within any facility within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. Should this occur, reasonable notice will be provided.*Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team.Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the
Staff Specialist (State) Award.Selection Criteria * Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in
Clinical Genetics, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Clinical Genetics at the role delineation of the service.
- Training in accordance with the requirements of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Clinical Genetics with membership of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia and Australasian Association of Clinical Geneticists.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience in molecular diagnosis of neurologic disease with a focus on identifying targets for therapy.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
