Job description

This is a permanent part-time (0.66FTE) position commencing in Term 1, 2023

Durham Road School is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative School Psychologist to join our student services team.

Our School Psychologist will be responsible for supporting staff to put in place effective strategies that support the mental health and wellbeing of students. Knowledge and experience in identifying, planning and supporting staff to address the individual needs of students at educational risk is also a requirement of the role. This includes students with disability and learning difficulties, as well as those needing curriculum adjustment, behaviour support and improved engagement.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Specific experience and expertise in the implementation of agreed whole school approaches would be highly valued.

Durham Road School is the largest Education Support School in Western Australia, catering for approximately 200 students with disability from Kindy through to Year 12. Each teacher's focus is on delivering high quality teaching and learning experiences using the latest innovation alongside current best practice techniques.

Our class sizes are small, with specialist teachers and education assistants across all phases of the school. We provide a targeted, differentiated curriculum based on the Western Australian Curriculum and Abilities Based Learning Education, Western Australia (ABLEWA), combined with a rich social environment designed to meet the individual learning needs of each child. We are committed to ensuring every student has a robust communication system.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria): * Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.

  • Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
  • High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
Applications will be assessed against these work related requirements (selection criteria) of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
