AddressThe Finance Advisory, Policy & Governance team provides technical accounting advice to the broader Suncorp business, to support decision making that enables improved P&L and capital outcomes, and ensure financial and management reporting compliance and alignment across the Suncorp Group.
This role is the interpreter of complexity, helping to remove much of the uncertainty relating to key accounting matters, estimates and judgements, enabling relevant commercial outcomes. This means being endlessly curious, forward looking, able to work through complex challenges and ambiguity, and overall, embracing a commitment to continuously improve.
This is a 6 month MTC opportunity and available either full time of part time.
What you'll do
- Support the CFO Finance Services response to issues faced by the Group to provide quality, timely and customer focused advice on technical accounting matters requiring judgement i.e., transaction-oriented accounting and reporting assistance for mergers & acquisitions
- Assist with the business planning process through active engagement with the finance partnering teams and provision of timely advice underpinning assumptions applied in the plan i.e., scenario analysis providing optionality to maximise shareholder returns
- Support the approvals process for key accounting matters, estimates and judgements
- Support identification of all relevant external accounting standard changes and IFRIC guidance, assisting with policy change and implementation as appropriate
- Support execution of updates to reporting disclosures required from accounting changes, collaborating with Technology and Transformation and Finance teams for system and data changes, policy, process, control and people changes, and facilitating communication of the impacts to internal and external stakeholders
- Provide excellence in reporting to Board and Executive Leadership Team, so that communications on technical accounting matters are in business language that can interpreted and understood by those without an accounting background, and so that communications enable informed decisions
- Assist with governance and oversight of Finance Services Policies, Standards and Frameworks
What you'll bring
- Degree in Accounting, Commerce (or similar) (mandatory)
- CA or CPA qualified (mandatory)
- 5+ years in financial accounting, reporting, or accounting advisory roles (focus on accounting advisory - preferred)
- Experience in a finance function in a medium to large financial services institution or within an Audit & Advisory firm
- Experience developing strong relationships based on mutual trust and respect
