ABOUT THE ROLE
Provide high level advice on safety of navigation matters relating to shipboard navigational aids and aids to navigation ashore.
High level international and national representation, working effectively across a range of stakeholders, developing high level written material and other communication, are key elements of this role.
You will:
- Lead and provide specialist technical advice on safety of navigation matters, developments in digitalisation globally, including on ship and shore-based navigational aids, radiocommunication systems and autonomous functions/systems.
- Lead and represent Australia nationally and internationally, including participation in delegations to forums of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other relevant bodies.
- Advise on policy and regulatory matters regarding AMSA's role as the Competent Authority for Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) matters in Australia.
To be successful in this position, you must have the following pre-requisites:
- Tertiary qualifications (or demonstrated formal training and experience) in one or more of the following disciplines - marine electrical/electronic, radio or telecommunication engineering, information technology, software development or autonomous systems.
- Understanding of, or the ability to quickly develop an understanding of, modern shipboard navigation and communications systems, digital data models and solutions.
- Knowledge of international and national obligations relating to navigation and maritime radiocommunications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
