About us
The Parliamentary Budget Office supports members of parliament to inform policy development and debate in parliament and the Victorian community. To do this, we provide independent, authoritative and timely research and analysis services across a wide range of topics.
Our team is crucial to the quality of our services and engagement with our client base. To deliver across the breadth of requests for our work, we require a diverse mix of experience and expertise, and proactive leadership.
We provide on request client services to members of parliament including:
▪ Policy costings – an assessment of the budget impact of a policy
▪ Advice – a report into a topic with an economic, fiscal or financial impact on the state of Victoria
▪ Submissions to parliamentary committee inquiries – a report providing information to be used in a committee inquiry or to provide committee members with important context.
The role
PBO Senior Analysts are crucial to delivery of our core client services – policy costings, advice reports and submissions to parliamentary committee inquiries. In this role you will undertake highly complex modelling and analytic tasks, provide policy expertise to other PBO staff and drive adoption of robust statistical and data use.
You will be tasked with high priority, complex, sensitive and time critical tasks. You will need to manage your own time, competing pressures and provide upward feedback on progress of your work and challenges your projects face.
The role extends beyond our core services, and you will routinely prepare and conduct information sessions for your colleagues on new or improved analytic, data or modelling techniques. You will actively seek our new data sources and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the PBO analytic team.
Not sure you meet all the selection criteria?
Before you consider the detailed position description, we recognise that women and people from diverse backgrounds may be less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single criteria. Condition of employment
We highly value our reputation for independence and seek to build it over time. It is essential to client engagement, how our work is received and to improving public transparency. Applicants must disclose any affiliations or memberships that could be seen as a conflict of interest in their cover letter.
To be considered for ongoing roles you must:
▪ be an Australian Permanent Resident or and Australia/New Zealand citizen
▪ not have received a Voluntary Departure Package from the VPS in the last 3 years.
To be considered for fixed term roles you must have a current visa allowing you to undertake paid employment in Australia.
