The primary purpose of this position is to support the preparation of the department's annual financial statements. This position will contribute to the delivery of financial accounting, analysis, strategies, technical advice and support services with respect to the financial management operations of the department.
In this role you will:
- Contribute to the department's asset accounting function in accordance with accounting standards and departmental policy to ensure departmental assets are properly recognised, valued and disposed of, including:
- contributing to the division's complex annual property, plant and equipment valuation process including the 50-year remaining useful life review
- maintenance of the department's asset register to ensure accurate recording and reporting including purchasing, transfer, depreciation and retirement
- scheduling and coordination of asset stocktakes
- oversight and review of operational aspects of asset recording and reporting including purchasing, transfers, depreciation and retirements
- consolidated reporting of the revaluation process including shared equity assets.
- Contribute to the development of the financial statements in accordance with statutory reporting legislation, Qld Treasury's Financial Reporting Requirements and other prescribed requirements with particular reference to the Asset management aspects of the department, including:
- assist with the preparation of detailed workpapers, reconciliations and other notes disclosures to support the Annual Financial Statements as required
- maintaining and enhancing the integrity of the Controlled and Administered general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to enable effective financial reporting
- end of month and end of year financial reporting process
- Tridata actual reporting to Queensland Treasury in relation to Assets and capital acquisitions
- supporting the Estimates process
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of appropriate policies, procedures, guidelines and systems to facilitate and promote sound financial reporting across the department.
- Coordinate and maintain relevant registers and reports in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures for the department.
- Assist in preparation of responses to urgent requests for financial information within short timeframes (e.g., questions on notice, Ministerial and management briefings, audit requests and position papers).
- Contribute to team discussions for preparing creative and innovative approaches to financial and asset accounting, policy and governance support. This includes contributing to relevant internal projects and initiatives within the department.
- Maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in respect of asset accounting, reporting and governance issues.
- Manage teams and resources wisely to deliver a broad work program and ensuring teams have the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to meet their performance expectations and professional development goals.
