  • Senior Building Surveyor with Department of Planning & Environment
  • Permanent full-time opportunity
  • Jindabyne location/Kosciuszko National Park
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $129,331 - $138,427 + super
  • Regionally located applicants also considered. Position includes frequent work out of Jindabyne

Our Planning & Assessment regional team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Building Surveyor to undertake building, planning and environmental control work in Kosciuszko National Park.
The Senior Building Surveyor works in consultation with Alpine Resort stakeholders in the Kosciuszko National Park to promote sound environmental practices and ensure that development activities are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements.
The role encompasses providing specialist advice and recommendations relative to planning, certification, fire safety and environmental compliance activities. General building certification work including pre-design liaison, general building certification duties such as critical stage inspections, preparation and issue of Part 6 certificates and ongoing review of the annual fire safety program.
About You
Our Senior Building Surveyor will have the proven ability to conduct multifaceted investigations of development and construction projects and have thorough understanding of the NSW planning and building certification framework. Based on your observations and investigations you will also be able to provide sound professional advice and recommendations to form reliable decisions.
Collaboration, good communication and negotiation are crucial skills to success in the role as you deliver outcomes on behalf of the Alpine community while balancing the legal planning requirements of NSW to contribute to a community that is safe and thriving.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Building Surveyor professional to work in a highly autonomous role in the delivery of projects and decision making across environmental, building control and certification activities in the beautiful Jindabyne region.
Key Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrated experience and sound working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, in particular development assessment and control under Part 4; building certification under Part 6; compliance investigation and enforcement under Part 9
  • Demonstrated experience and sound working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment (Development Certificate and Fire Safety) Regulation 2021
  • Demonstrated experience and sound working knowledge of other relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in carrying out critical stage inspections for all classes of buildings
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Building Code of Australia and experience in its interpretation
Essential Requirements
  • Either hold, or be eligible for, a Building Surveyor-unrestricted, Building Surveyor-restricted (all classes of building) or certifier-fire safety, accreditation under the Building and Development Certifiers Regulations 2020.
  • Class C driver's licence and a willingness to travel.
