The opportunity

At IMDEX, we believe that data, insights, and AI can revolutionise the way our customers work and add value to the mining industry. IMDEX is actively looking for a passionate and driven Senior Data Scientist who thrives on the design, build, use and maintenance of Machine Learning models and in-house developed algorithms. 

In this role, you will be an integral member of a dynamic team dedicated to creating innovative data products tailored for the mining industry. You will be working with complex geoscience data and applying advanced analytics and machine learning methods to develop proprietary algorithms and ML models that will be utilized in IMDEX’s software.

You will be working with a diverse and talented team of Data Scientists, Geoscientists and Data Engineers, in an innovative team culture that fosters continuous learning.

To be successful

This position will appeal to a curious minded individual who is self-motivated and has a strong foundation in applied mathematics and statistics and analytics programming. 

The following skills will set you apart:

• 5+ years of commercial experience with applied Machine Learning, Deep Learning or Computational Geoscience.
• A degree in Maths, Statistics, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or similar discipline.
• Advanced knowledge of Python programming language.
• Advanced knowledge of data analysis frameworks such as scikit-learn, numpy, pandas, scipy.
• Experience with statistical modelling and characterisation across differing data types.
• Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics. You should have experience with some of the following: regression, gradient boosted trees, random forest, simulation, clustering, neural networks, time series, signal processing, computer vision.
• Effective communication and problem resolution skills. Able to interact with all levels of a business in a constructive and respectful manner.
• Knowledge of git and other DevOps and MLOp practices.
• Experience with cloud computing services such as Azure, AWS.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of geophysics or geoscience.
• A PhD or Master-level degree in a Science or Engineering Discipline.
• Experience working in an analytics software development team.
