About the role
As a Senior Digital Developer at Are Media, you will be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of our WordPress sites. You will work closely with our design and marketing teams to create user-friendly, visually appealing, and functionally robust websites. Your expertise will not only involve theme and plugin development but also extend to optimising website performance, ensuring security, and contributing innovative ideas to elevate our web presence.
Duties
- Lead the development and deployment of new WordPress websites and ensure high-quality standards.
- Customize WordPress themes and plugins to meet business requirements.
- Optimise website speed, scalability, and ensure all sites are mobile-responsive.
- Maintain and enhance existing WordPress websites, including updates, bug fixes, and feature additions.
- Ensure website security by implementing best practices and collaborating with the IT team to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, content, marketing) to ensure project requirements are met and timelines are adhered to.
- Stay updated with the latest web technologies, trends, and WordPress updates to incorporate into our projects.
Skills and experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in WordPress development, including custom theme and plugin development.
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
- Experience with website optimization tools and techniques.
- Proficiency in PHP and MySQL.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Knowledge of SEO principles and ensuring that applications adhere to them.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
