Key accountabilities of the role
• Assist in the compilation of environmental-economic accounts using the System of Environmental Economic Accounting framework, including identifying appropriate source data, extracting and transforming data using R-coding in data bricks and populating environmental-economic accounts.
• Contribute to the production of other types of environmental-economic assessments as required, using established environmental-economic valuation techniques.
• Liaise with other departmental staff, including environmental scientists, to obtain data for specified indicators, and enter data into accounts.
• Prepare and produce well-researched technical reports, briefing notes and submissions to ensure that the Agency and the Minister have sufficient, accurate, and quality environmental-economic accounting information and advice at their disposal.
• Manage consultants undertaking economic studies relating to environmental management to ensure work undertaken is commensurate with NSW government and corporate priorities and policies.
• Participate in inter-agency working groups, committees and multi-disciplinary projects as required, providing economic expertise, follow-up research and advice to ensure that the Branch’s and Division’s/corporate position is articulated consistently and appropriately.
• Develop and maintain professional working relationships and networks with stakeholders to promote environmental-economic approaches to decision-making.
Key Challenges of the role
• Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to secure the exchange and collation of information.
• Exercising judgement, discretion and confidentiality when developing and providing advice and representing the organisation.
Essential Skills and Experience
• Degree in Economics, Economic statistics or similar.
• Familiarity with micro and macro-economic methods for estimating economic values
• Demonstrated ability to code in R.
