About the Role
We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Economist with a leading NSW Government agency.
Key accountabilities include:
- Assist in the compilation of environmental-economic accounts using the System of Environmental Economic Accounting framework, including identifying appropriate source data, extracting and transforming data using R-coding in Databricks and populating environmental-economic accounts.
- Contribute to the production of other types of environmental-economic assessments as required, using established environmental-economic valuation techniques.
- Liaise with other departmental staff, including environmental scientists, to obtain data for specified indicators, and enter data into accounts.
- Prepare and produce well-researched technical reports, briefing notes and submissions to ensure that the Agency and the Minister have sufficient, accurate, and quality environmental-economic accounting information and advice at their disposal.
- Manage consultants undertaking economic studies relating to environmental management to ensure work undertaken is commensurate with NSW government and corporate priorities and policies.
- Participate in inter-agency working groups, committees and multi-disciplinary projects as required, providing economic expertise, follow-up research and advice to ensure that the Branch’s and Division’s/corporate position is articulated consistently and appropriately.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships and networks with stakeholders to promote environmental-economic approaches to decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to code in R.
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to secure the exchange and collation of information.
- Exercising judgement, discretion and confidentiality when developing and providing advice and representing the organisation.
- Degree in Economics, Economic statistics or similar.
- Familiarity with micro and macro-economic methods for estimating economic values
