The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking a qualified, experienced and well organised Senior Education Officer to join our Education team in this full time, ongoing position.

The Senior Education Officer manages the Museum’s onsite school education program. This role is responsible for creating, managing, and evaluating programs that deliver transformative learning experiences for students and community groups on our site.
The role leads the development of programs that take students and learners into Museum galleries, exhibitions, and vessels, as well as creating workshops and programs that highlight the Museum’s collections and stories. The role will focus on programs for primary and secondary students, as well as accessibility programs that make the museum more available to community groups.
High level overview of accountabilities:
- Researching, developing, and implementing programs that maximise the educational use of the Museum’s exhibitions, galleries, vessels, precinct, and objects.
- Managing the coordination of the Museum Educator team of casual staff and the quality control of the program delivery.
- Collaborate with the Digital Education Project Officer to contribute to the quality of digital education resources.
- Leading the development of programs that increase the accessibility of museum content for students and community groups.
- Working with the marketing team to promote the Museum’s education programs.
- Participating in museum project teams to ensure educational thought and content are embedded into exhibitions, galleries, and projects.
- Managing the Education Coordinator and working with the Bookings Officer to ensure a high-quality end-to-end visitor experience for schools and community groups.
- Developing and maintaining processes that ensure the effective ongoing delivery of onsite programs to schools and community groups.
- Identify and report on risks and challenges and implement and monitor risk mitigation strategies ensuring all onsite education events and programs are compliant in line with policies and procedures.
Selection Criteria:
- A degree in Education and/or tertiary qualification relevant to learning in Museum/Cultural and/or educational contexts.
- Relevant practical experience in school and/or museum education.
- Excellent understanding of current curriculum priorities and the curriculum development process
- Ability to design and manage educational programs of high quality, appeal and relevance to teacher and student audiences.
- Ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to be agile, creative, and flexible in developing innovative programs that engage and inspire students of all ages.
- Demonstrated experience managing casual staff.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, work in a team environment and supervise staff or lead a team of casual employees.
- Effective written and spoken communication strategies for a range of contexts.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and manage time effectively.
- Understanding of the school excursion marketplace.
- Understanding of the marketing of educational services and products to schools.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria.
