About the Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership
The Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership ensures Indigenous people have the opportunity to participate in activities across the University. About the Role
The Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership is seeking an experienced Senior Student Advancement Officer to join their team!

The Senior Student Advancement Officer holds a key role in coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Badanami Centre and providing strategic support in the values and commitments of the Securing Success: 2015-2020 Strategic Plan and the WSU 2020-2025 Indigenous Strategy – particularly in the area of academic achievement for Indigenous students. The position will identify and implement strategies for improving the assessment and delivery of curriculum, and other initiatives, to support Indigenous students’ academic literacy needs.

The position is expected to work closely with colleagues within Badanami and with other Student Support Service staff across the University, to provide support and assistance to Indigenous students in the use of online systems and processes to enhance their capacity to self-manage and self-inform.

This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Western’s Parramatta South Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. Please review the position description for further information.

Key Responsibilities of the Role
In this role, the Senior Student Advancement Officer will: 

  • Provide high level advice and support to the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education on the development and implementation of academic literacy and learning programs tailored to Indigenous students needs.
  •  Collaborate closely to elevate awareness of best practices in Indigenous student support across the organization and contribute to academic literacy services university-wide.
  •  Play a crucial role in stakeholder management, working alongside the Director to enhance participation, retention, and graduation rates for Indigenous students and to ensure a culturally rich and engaging learning experience.
  •  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Badanami Centre, ensuring smooth coordination and workload management.

About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate that they: 

  • Are an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person.
  •  Have a current NSW employee Working with Children Check.
  •  Have a relevant tertiary qualification and extensive equivalent professional experience and training in leadership and management in a student support environment.
  •  Have experience in leadership and management with a proven record of achievement in the provision of Indigenous support services.
  •  Have experience in working across a diverse range of stakeholders within Indigenous communities.
  •  Have experience at all levels in program planning, implementation and delivery with proven skills in innovation, data analysis and problem solving.
  •  Have high level oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  •  Have capacity to design and implement the delivery of student support initiatives and academic literacy workshops and resources for face to face and/or online delivery to Indigenous students.
  •  Have a current drivers licence and a willingness and ability to travel regularly between, and work from, various campuses.

Working with Children Check:
It is a mandatory requirement for any incumbent of this position to have a current NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance in accordance with the NSW Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 8 $130,740 to $145,135 p.a. (comprising Salary of $110,477 to $122,641 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
