About This Opportunity 

The Senior Engagement Officer is primarily responsible for coordinating and delivering integrated program of outreach, recruitment and engagement initiatives for the Faculty of Science, contributing to achievement of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework student pipeline and recruitment KPIs.

Working under the direction of the Manager, Outreach and Engagement within a supportive, high-performing, professional team, you’ll play a key point of contact for internal stakeholders and will also provide advice and services for a range of other engagement initiatives delivered across the Faculty and it’s Schools.

You’ll be a key member of a small Outreach and Engagement team within the Marketing Communications and Future Students unit, Faculty of Science.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Contribute to development of the Faculty’s annual schedule of initiatives for future student pipeline growth, outreach, student recruitment and engagement

  • In collaboration with stakeholders, plan and deliver outreach, student recruitment and engagement activities and initiatives, ensuring outcomes align with the Faculty’s UQ strategies and priorities

  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial external stakeholder relationships e.g. with secondary school networks

  • Work independently and collaboratively with multiple teams to coordinate and deliver B2B and B2C recruitment strategies, activities and events

  • Produce promotional content to support outreach and recruitment strategies, ensuring consistent accurate messaging, and brand compliance

  • Research, apply and share current market trends and data insights

  • Collect and interpret data to evaluate and report on outreach, recruitment and engagement activity and event outcomes

  • Support colleagues to deliver engaging Faculty presentations and workshops to potential students, and other audience groups as required

  • Plan, manage, and deliver engagement events and workshops, and support partnership activations for a range of audiences

  • Develop resources/toolkits to assist colleagues and ensure high quality audience experiences and a cohesive, consistent approach to outreach activities and event delivery across the Faculty

  • Contribute to teamwork, knowledge sharing, and process improvement

  • Occasionally travel to other UQ campuses

  • Work occasional evening and weekend events e.g. Open Days, careers expos, seminars and workshops

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications and at least 5 years professional experience in marketing, sales, engagement, or student recruitment.

  • Proven track record of developing and executing evidence-based successful student recruitment, outreach and engagement initiatives, or demonstrated transferable skills.

  • Experience in contributing to offer/product development to support student recruitment strategies

  • Demonstrated strong experience in all aspects of event planning and delivery

  • Strong marketing skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a variety of audiences and internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.

  • Successful track record and sound understanding of effective stakeholder engagement including relationship building and translation of strategic objectives into operational activities.

  • Demonstrated experience translating complex information into plain language

  • Ability to gather, interpret and use market and audience data, information and insights.

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and proactively and meet deadlines with attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, outcomes-focussed, teamwork.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement and problem solve.

  • Proficiency using a wide range of computer applications including events management software (Eventbrite); email marketing software (Vision6); databases; MS Office suite including Excel; workflow management tools (Wrike).

  • Demonstrated experience in a relevant role/s within the university sector, government or similar other large, complex organisation is highly desirable.

  • Experience in engagement with or student recruitment from under-represented groups is desirable e.g. regional, remote, low SES, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
