Job description

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning and Engineering Officers to join our Strategic and Engagement team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the planning and engineering aspects of various complex transport planning projects in accordance with government regulations and standards. You will also be reporting on transport matters related to urban planning and development applications. You will need to liaise at a senior level with other government agencies, local governments, private organisations, client bodies and community groups with the aim to inform the pathway forward and find solutions to complex planning issues.
You will prepare Ministerial briefs and responses to Ministerial correspondences as well as represent the Department (DPLH) and the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) at State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) hearings and mediations.
This is an open pool recruitment process for permanent full-time, and fixed term full-time opportunities. Suitable applicants will be placed in a Pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies for a period of 12 months.
Located in Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail, close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.
To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate comprehensive skills, knowledge and experience in:

  • Transport planning, traffic engineering, traffic modelling and/ or road design.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing traffic and transport reports from a transport planning statutory viewpoint.
  • Developing scope of works, project management and/ or contract management.
  • Demonstrated ability in conceptional and analytical skills and the ability to communicate the findings within the planning system, planning practices, legislation, policy and systems.
  • Highly developed written and oral communications, presentation and interpersonal skills, including proven capacity to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A degree in Civil, Traffic or Transport Engineering or Urban/ Regional Planning is essential.
  • Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Personal Leadership as outlined below.
